Support for disabled people using Public Transport

For information about a public transport 'buddying' scheme for disabled people in Wiltshire, please visit the Wiltshire Independent Travel Support (WITS) webpage.

Information for people over 60 & disabled people

A useful guide about getting around written by Age UK which gives information about information on practical and financial assistance with public transport that may be available to people who are aged 60 or over, or those who are disabled. Health Transport Information

Non emergency patient transport to hospitals (sometimes known as ‘ambulancecar’ service or ‘Medicar’)

For non emergency patient transport to either:

Great Western Hospital Swindon, Bath RUH, Salisbury District Hospital

or

Savernake Community Hospital, Chippenham Community Hospital, Melksham Community Hospital, Trowbridge Community Hospital, Westbury Community Hospital and Warminster Community Hospital

Ideally you need to call the number given above at least the day before your appointment (although bookings can be made up to 4 hours prior to your appointment).

Your eligibility for non emergency transport will be based on medical need. When you call the number given above you will be asked some questions to determine whether or not you qualify for non emergency patient transport. Ideally you need to call the number given above at least the day before your appointment (although bookings can be made up to 4 hours prior to your appointment).

If you do not qualify for non emergency patient transport then contact your local Community Transport scheme. If you do not qualify for non emergency patient transport then you may be able to claim a refund of your travel costs under the 'Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme' (HTCS). For those that qualify, this scheme covers the cost of travelling to hospital or other NHS premises for NHS-funded treatment or diagnostic test arranged by a doctor or dentist.
